Nightengale: All-new Wrigley gives all-new feel to Opening Day

CHICAGO - It was Wrigley Field all right, but, boy, it sure didn't look anything like we've ever seen, at least in 80 years.
The traditional smells of sights and smells of Major League Baseball's Opening Day were replaced by the sound of power drills and jack-hammers, the sight of cranes, forklifts, scaffolding and construction workers, and the smell of dust and dirt.
The only semblance of normalcy was a Chicago Cubs' defeat Sunday night, losing 3-0 to the rival St. Louis Cardinals in front of 35,035 at under-construction Wrigley Field. The Cubs were hitless in 13 at-bats with runners in scoring position. Ace John Lester couldn't make it out of the fifth inning. And the top six hitters in the lineup went 3-for-23 with nine strikeouts.
